I do individual therapy with adults, either in person in San Francisco or by video for folks throughout California. However, at this time, all of my sessions are being conducted via video. 

An individual session lasts about 50 minutes and are usually held weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your schedule and needs. 

Deciding if therapy is right for you

If you’re here, you’re probably trying to figure out if you want to come to therapy and how it might fit into your life. Whether it’s your first time or not, there are many reasons people decide to seek counseling. Maybe something is happening in your life or within yourself that isn’t working for you, or maybe therapy is just another facet of your wellness routine.

Some of the many reasons to meet with a therapist include:

    • Feeling down or anxious
    • Healing from past experiences or trauma
    • Life transitions and stress around work, relationships, friendships, or family
    • Difficulty coping with a particular aspect of your life
    • Grieving a loss (a person, a pet, a job, or even a place)
    • Struggling with your identity, whether that’s your sexual or gender identity, cultural identity, or something else
    • Struggling with substance use
    • Making difficult decisions
    • Desiring some kind of change — even if you’re not sure what that is
    • Wanting consistent support from an objective outsider

Video Therapy

Video therapy (teletherapy) can be a great alternative to meeting in person. Research on teletherapy indicates that it can be comparable in efficacy to in-person therapy for many challenges

It’s important that teletherapy sessions be done in a quiet, private place with a reliable internet connection. This can be from home, in a private office, or even from your (non-moving) car. I cannot do sessions if you are outside, driving, or sharing a space with someone else.

I use SimplePractice’s teletherapy tool, which is HIPAA compliant and has bank-level security. You can do a video session via most camera-equipped computers, phones, or tablet devices. If you do a session on your computer, you don’t need to install any software; I will send you a link and you can do the session through your internet browser. You can also do the session on a mobile device using the Telehealth by SimplePractice app.

Note: Sometimes teletherapy isn’t the best choice if you’re dealing with certain challenges. We can talk more about this during your complimentary phone consultation.
