About Natalie Zimm, APCC, AMFT

How I Work

I’m Natalie, a Los Angeles-based psychotherapist, artist, and writer. After working in animation and film, I felt a deeper calling to help others heal through the magic of storytelling, which led me to become a therapist. As a former military kid and creative soul with ADHD, I understand the power of imagination to bring clarity and direction to our personal narratives.

If you’re someone who feels hijacked by their nervous system and procrastinates by researching super specific topics until 2am or buying collectables to cope with stress, I get it. For those of us who are neurodiverse or have trauma histories, it’s easy to get distracted or pulled away from what we know we want, even if we think we “know better.” As a therapist, I’m here to create a safe space for all parts of you to be seen and understood, while we look deeper at these patterns from a patient and compassionate stance.

I also recognize that growth often blooms outside our comfort zones. I’m here to gently challenge you when needed, using evidence-based practices to rewire your brain and nervous system, to guide you towards your goals. But remember, therapy isn’t just about tackling problems! I believe in bringing joy, laughter, and silliness to sessions, creating a space where healing and humor dance hand-in-hand.

If you’re looking for a therapist who shares these values, I encourage you to reach out. I’m here to support you on your journey towards healing and wholeness.

Additionally, I come from a diverse background with Ukrainian, Chinese-Taiwanese, Armenian, and now Mexican roots! I have a deep appreciation for the richness of individual backgrounds and the unique challenges and strengths that come with navigating both individual and collectivist blended families. This lived experience allows me to resonate deeply with individuals from a diversity of backgrounds, offering culturally sensitive support and understanding.

My Approach

My direct yet sensitive communication style resonates best with visually-oriented, dream-rich, and open-minded individuals. If you thrive on challenges and identify with alternative subcultures, I offer a safe space for deep exploration and growth.

My style is collaborative and client-led, meaning we journey together at your pace, and I respect your voice and priorities. As a trauma-informed therapist, I prioritize safety and understanding the impact of past experiences on your present. My foundation lies in psychodynamic and somatic work, exploring the hidden depths of your mind and body. However, I believe in an integrative approach, weaving in evidence-based methods like EMDR, Internal Family Systems, DBT and ACT to tailor a unique path for your healing.

Who I Work Best With:

  • Creatives, artists, and visual thinkers
  • Individuals curious about exploring dreams and somatic experiences
  • Openness to self-challenge and stepping outside comfort zones
  • Appreciation for direct but compassionate communication

I don’t work as well with:

  • Individuals looking solely for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Folks who only want coping skills
  • People with tiny hands

Outside of Therapy

In my spare time you can find me scaling peaks in the San Gabriel Mountains, attending concerts, soaring in the air on aerial silks, or reading fantasy, mythology or classic folklore. I love expressing myself through playing piano, writing, drawing and painting, and even dabbling in creating cartoons. I am an author of a children’s book, “Scooter,” and am currently working on a hybrid graphic novel.
