FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need therapy?

People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. If you feel like something in your life isn’t working for you, or maybe you just want extra support, let’s set up a time to chat. I offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation, during which we can discuss what would be helpful for you. You can also read more about deciding if therapy is right for you here.

Can't I just talk to friends or family?

Friends and family can be an excellent resource and source of support in your life, but there may be limits to the support they can give. I’m trained to see the big picture — how all the pieces in the story of your life have led you to where you are now. I’m not here to give advice or pass judgment, and my goal is to be your guide to help you find your own answers. You can learn more about what it’s like to work with me here

Is video therapy secure?

I take your security and privacy very seriously. I use a video platform through SimplePractice, which is HIPAA-compliant, has bank-level security, and never records sessions. Learn more about how video therapy works here

Is video therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Research on online therapy (teletherapy) indicates that it can be comparable in efficacy to in-person therapy, including with EMDR and IFS. You can learn more about this here

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor I do not have the knowledge or licensure to provide medication. However, medication can be a helpful component to your therapeutic work, and I am happy to process this possibility with you. I can also provide referrals to excellent psychiatrists or other practitioners that prescribe medication.

Do you take insurance?

No. I do not take insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. However, I am happy to provide a monthly receipt (called a super bill), which can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you have a PPO, you can often get 30-80% of your session fee reimbursed.  You can learn more about this here.

What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is when we talk more in-depth about what’s bringing you to therapy and any goals you might have. I will ask about what’s happening for you in the present, as well as some of your history and life experiences. It’s also a chance for you to get a feel for how I work and ask any questions you might have. It’s the first step beyond the phone consultation towards developing a therapeutic relationship. I look forward to meeting you!

Can we talk before meeting in person?

Absolutely. I offer a complimentary 30-minute phone consultation to see if we’d be a good fit and answer any questions you have.
